Hello Sean & everyone at Incisive Geek,

I just purchased Ticker at the app store and I absolutely love it!!! It is my favorite app so far on my G3. I previously used a program for my now defunct Palm handheld that is collecting dust since the app store has opened. Thank you for making this great program. This may sound like a heavy request but these are just suggestions. I realize this is a lot of work for such a small price for this great app. Just know that you have a real fan in what you created. I'm sure some people who visit here will probably call me crazy for posting this much but I thought you guys wouldn't mind.

I love the icons that you have created but how about a few more that you could create when of course you have the time. This is a lot but here it goes (again, just requests)-

Theatrical Movies (film reel icon or popcorn box)- my most requested icon! I have a ton of movie release dates to input.

    Television Programs (TV icon)

Music (Musical Note/different than the disc icon you currently have)

Blu-ray disc (similar to the disc icon but blue colored)

New Year's Day (Party Favors maybe)

    Easter Sunday (Bunny Rabbit)

Independence Day/4th of July (Fireworks icon)

Mother's Day (not sure what icon for this one)

Father's Day (not sure what icon for this one)

Good Friday (a nice religious icon)

    Columbus Day (sailing ship icon)

    Thanksgiving (Turkey icon)

St. Patrick's Day (Irish Clover icon)

First Day of Spring (Sun or Birds icon)

April Fool's Day (Court Jester icon)

    Passover (a nice religious icon)

First Day of Summer (Sun or something from the Beach icon)

Rosh Hashanah (a nice religious icon)

Yom Kippur (a nice religious icon)

    Chanukah (a nice religious icon)

First Day of Winter (Wind Blowing icon)

That's it and I guess enough. I bet you never thought you would have this many requests. Anyway, thanks again Sean. You made a fantastic app and it is much appreciated. I'll cross my fingers that someday maybe all of these will have their own icons. All the best. -CR

  3. CR,

Thank you for the purchase and the feedback. The icons used for events are actually created by someone else, we just license them. We do plan to add more icons, even some of the ones you mentioned, we just did not have the icons before launch.

If you have the time could you please post a rating for Ticker on iTunes?

Once again thank you for the purchase and the excellent feedback.

It's probably evil of me to post a feature request before I actually buy an app, but I've already bought two competing apps before I saw yours, so I'm waiting at least a few hours before I buy my third app to do the same basic thing :)

Are you thinking about adding remote sync support to the app? I'm a software developer myself, and have been playing around with context-sensitive infrastructure, distributed notifications (ie: alternate devices that beep at you or display messages that are part of the actual house itself..)

I'd like to integrate with, say, Google Gadgets, and have a gadget on my iGoogle page that counts. It'd be great if it was also able to be updated that way as well.

For short term timers, such as cooking timers for things that take awhile, an actual physical status display - an LCD in the corner of my living room - would be really nice. Of course, I'm not expecting you to implement that, but a remote interface to the data from my iPhone would let me do that. And it would even be able to beep at me when the time came up!

Even without the silly amounts of infrastructure, a remote interface a back-end system would let you send emails to notify people when a timer came up. With push email, that means you'd actually have something that resembled an alarm, since the SDK doesn't permit that.

On the more mundane - I would very much like categories. As you can see from my list, I have a lot of different uses in mind for this class of application. Some of them are very much like your sample screenshots, but others are more short term, transitory uses. I use one to figure out how long my toddler has been napping for. I don't want to scroll through my other tasks to get through to that...

    Thanks,

    gopi.

    Sean,

I did leave a very positive rating and feedback at iTunes last night but I believe Apple reviews the comments first so that's probably why it hasn't shown up yet. Glad to hear some of the icons I mentioned will eventually make it to Ticker. It's a great program. I'll look forward to the next version.

Great program! One question, does anyone know if this drains the battery because it is always ticking or only when viewing?

  8. hbmyke7,

Thank you for the praise and purchase.

Ticker does not consume any battery when the app is not being run. It is currently only possible for Apple apps to run in the background.

It appears that Ticker is always running when you first start it up but really it just calculates the time difference upon startup and every second, a programming trick.

    Sean,

I would love one tiny little feature. The red number tags that appear on the main iphone screen indicating how many items someone has? I would love it if one of those features could be added so that I can see how many items I have in Ticker, or else how many items I have within ticker say within three months so that I get a visual reminder to start the necessary processes on particular actions.

  10. logan50x,

Thank you for the suggestion I put it on the list for consideration.

So you want a setting along the lines of:

Show number badge on app icon with the number of events within <number here> <time period choice here: days, weeks, months, years>

Hi. A very useful program. Good work! It would be more useful to me, however, if I could track events to the second. Any chance of adding that? Thanks.

  12. Bill,

Thank you for the complement. I just checked the developer documentation and it does not look like the UIDatePicker (the control where you choose the date and time) supports displaying seconds. Looks like I would have to "roll my own" to provide such functionality, which unfortunately for you would be very low on my list of things to do. Out of curiosity what use requires such accuracy?

Sorry I don't have an easy fix for this feature request.

    I love this App!

I have two suggestions for it though.

    1) For events that occur yearly, it would be nice if it could show(in the case of a birthday) the persons age, calculated from a birth year entered. I put in the birth year on the description line right now, and figure it out, but it'd be nice to have that displayed.

    2) It would also be handy to have the icon display something (a number, an exclamation point, etc) in the top right corner when an event is near, like the E-mail or App Store icons do. Two days ahead would be handy, but something user-definable(perhaps from 1 hour to a whole month ahead) would be fabulous!

  14. Heath,

    Thanks for the feedback.

    1) When the birthday event is first created I could calculate what the next birthday will be but I see a few potential problems (I almost included this feature when adding the ability to create events from the addressbook).
    a) Potential problem 1: When the event comes to pass the user will have to remember to manually change the birthday #.
    b) Potential problem 2: This assumes the date in the address book actually has the correct year set, I could see some people just setting the month and day for people that they may not know what year they were born.

    2) Adding an indicator to the app icon is easy (part of the SDK) the problem is that the iPhone still does not support background processes/background notifications so the number in the icon will only be accurate to the last time the app was closed.

I could go either way on these features (not all that hard to do). What are your thoughts based on the potential problems I listed above.

  15. Hi,
I just wanted to add some more features (if they are already requested, just ignore them :)

    1. It's possible to add an event based on the adress book but not on the calendar? Hmm Creating events based on the calendar would be more effective.
    2. A party icon
    3. When tapping on "edit" to delete events the list gets "squeezed", that doesn't look good

That's all, really nice App :)

  16. Nitecrawla83,

    1) I would love to have this ability but Apple does not publish an API for us developers to tap into the Calendar like we can the Address Book. I have no idea why they are preventing us from accessing the information.

    2) Noted

    3) This could be changed but is not too high on the priority list. I will have to revisit other applications and see how they handle it.

Thank you for the purchase and feedback.

I really love this app. Just wondered if there was any update or rough timescale for more icons being added for other holidays and seasons. I appreciate you're very busy.

    Thank you
