  2. Be good to have graphs like shown here 'http://www.flickr.com/photos/geoffjones/sets/72157600748108812/' they were taken using the UTS Blood Pressure application on the Treo

Also some way of editing the red/green changeover points on the numerical display.

    Posted 1 year ago #
  3. make the email file so its easily readable by a spreadsheet, eg each reading on one line with readings separated by a delimiter.

  4. geoffjones,

Thank you for the purchase and feedback.

    1) Graphing like UTS Blood Pressure
Can you elaborate on what the screen shots are showing so I can better understand them, I do not have access to a Palm device to play with the program.

    2) Editing the red/green changeover points.
Good idea, will have to add that to my todo list.

    3) Email output formatting for spreadsheet usage.
Another good idea, this too will go on the todo list.

    Thank you

Blood pressure data does not save after first entry. When I go back to the entry screen and back they save. If the button at the lower left of the screen is the save button it is not working. Also it wont let me indicate "done" unless I tab to the note field. Please fix or explain as I may be using the application incorrectly.

  6. Eaglez,

Can you clarify what you mean by 'Blood pressure data does not save after first entry', a step by step list would be helpful so I can follow along.

The button in the lower left corner will return you to the event list from any view within the application, a shortcut to the event list.

As for indicating 'done' when entering systolic, diastolic or pulse that is a limitation in the standard number only keyboards provided by Apple. I may be able to fix this by creating a custom keyboard that includes a 'done' button, I will have to look into it.

Thank you for the purchase and feedback.

If you have any more questions or comments please post back, I am very open to suggestions.

    Re Eaglez post:

    1) Click the '+' top-right.
    2) Click in the systolic, diastolic, pulse and note fields in turn and add entry.
    3) Select a date.
    4) Click the 'BP Tracker' button top-left.
    5) Note that the values you entered don't appear in the new entry now showing at the top of the list.
    6) Click on the entry to go back to the data-input screen.
    7) Click the 'BP Tracker' button top-left.
    8) Now they do.

    As for my own suggestions:

    1) Agree with Geoff about different graphs; I believe they are showing quantities of specific readings for a chosen time period, so--for instance--you can see that there is a peak of about 4 instances of a reading of 130(?) for diastolic and 5 readings of 81(?) for systolic.

    2) In the same vein, a screen showing simple averages (mean, mode and median) for a specified time period might also be useful.

    3) If you could add in some reference material (maybe a version of this graph: http://www.vaughns-1-pagers.com/medicine/blood-pressure.htm) and some details/options for colour-coding results (maybe using the same graph's colours?) that would be useful.

    And finally:

    4) Maybe an alarm system to remind you to (a) take any blood pressure meds. you might be on, and (b) to actually take a reading might be sweet.

All that said, it's a really nice program as it stands and will certainly get a lot of use from myself.

    Cheers

  8. creed,

Thank you for the detailed steps to show the problem, I was able to duplicate the error and have fixed it.

    1) I will definitely have to look into some different graphing methods and options.

    2) Basic statistics sounds like a good idea, will add that to the todo list.

    3) Reference material is good but I also don't want to have the liability involved with presenting medical advice. Not sure exactly how to handle this one.

    4) I have another program called Ticker which is designed to handle alarm tasks. Apple currently does not allow 3rd party programs to do background notifications so the alarm will only show/sound when the app is being run.

Thank you for the purchase and the time to provide good feedback

    Sean,
Thanks for writing this. I was using the notepad and while it worked for the task it is very cumbersome to edit a page and is slow.
I like all the current features but the graphs could use more colors especially for points.
I like how you use green fonts for in the norm but what about another color for moderate readings rather than all red. Maybe on the main BP Tracker page Green, Yellow and Red or what ever looks best.

The graphs also could benefit from a quick glance color coding of normal, moderate and high color points and that would mean a fourth color for the line and range shading.

I really like this program a lot since right now it does what I need and does it well.

  10. tphillips63,

Thank you for the purchase and feedback.

I am currently working on the graph portion of the app, I will take your suggestions into consideration.

Hopefully I will have a new version uploaded to Apple in the next day or so.

    Hello, Sean,

the entering of new blood pressure data ist still a bit unhandy: I will have to tap on notes to end it even if I only want to enter blood pressure and pulse. Can You also add something like an »auto-jump« feature there? That means that the cursor automatically jumps to the next field after entering data.

Also the graph section could make use of the iPhones ability to rotate the screen.

Thank You - I'm looking forward to the new version.

  12. Horst,

Thank you for the purchase and feedback.

The keyboard/entry is a bit strange. The problem is the standard numeric keyboard that Apple provides does not include a 'done' button, I have looked into creating my own custom keyboard but there are no hooks in the API for me to do it easily/cleanly, basically I would have to make a 'hack'.

As for the auto-jump, as you call it, I think it could be done, I will have to play around with the idea. Also the keyboard does not have to be hidden before changing views so you don't really need to click on the notes field unless you want to type a note in.

The rotation of the graphs is something I have thought about, rest assured it is on my list.

I too am looking forward to version 1.1, wish Apple had it reviewed already.

Echoing some of the others on here:

    1) Please also track weight
    2) Please allow a selection on the EMail format... CSV (Comma Separated Value) or the current format you have (CSV would allow us to easily import the data into a spreadsheet for external graphing, etc).
    3) Support for graphs in landscape mode (larger) and just individual graphs

  14. KaneHau,

Thank you for the good feedback.

Weight is a good suggestion, did not think about that one, it does have a big impact on blood pressure. An option for a CSV formatted email is near the top of my todo list. I plan on adding some more graphing abilities just not sure when (adding the graphing takes a bigger chunk of time to sit down and implement).

    Hi Sean,

Very nice your application, I left the 1. Review in iTunes, hope you don't mind it is in German.
    1. Did you think about localizing? I guess it is not a big deal, because there is not much to translate.
    2. What about the data, if a firmwareupdate is necessary? Some other programs have lost the data... Would be very pitty. An Export and import funcion for the data would be very nice. Please consider this.
    3. About Weight. I am travelling a lot and I don't have a weightscale along with me. So if you implement this, please make it possible to disable it in the option dialog for guys like me :)
    4. Would it be nice to have an embedded screenshot of the graphic screen in the email?

Thanks for having a really usefull application on my iPhone.

  16. Rudi,

Thank you for the feedback, it does not matter what language it is in, someone will find it helpful.

    1) Honestly I have not thought about it much probably because it is mostly just numbers and dates.
    2) I will have to look into this, I am hoping that restoring from the backups iTunes makes would restore all the 3rd party settings.
    3) If I do add weight it will most likely be able to be hidden by the user, that will help keep the interface clean for those that don't want it.
    4) Will have to look into this and see if the SDK lets me do such a thing.

    Sean --

My first week with BP Tracker has been very insightful. One item I'd like to see is a page that lists the various BP ranges (Normal, prehypertension, etc.) set by the AHA. It could be a pop-up like the rules in iPhone card games. Lots of disclaimers should keep the ambulance chasers at bay!

And I'll jump on the "Add a box to track weight" bandwagon. Right now, I'm tracking it in another app. It would be awesome to put all the data together in one place.

    Keep up the great work!

  18. John,

Thank you for the suggestions and purchase.

    1) I will give the AHA recommended values some thought.

    2) I guess weight tracking is getting bumped higher on the todo list :)

  19. Hi Sean,

I would try the app if weight track is available also, to me my blood pressure is realted to my weight...!

So I'll wait until that :-)

How about to have a single chart showing all the graphs at once and the weight graph ;)

And what about keeping track of medications I've to take?

    Cheers

  20. Yogie,

Thank you for weighing in (couldn't pass up that pun) on the discussion to add weight tracking.

So basically you want one graph with all the lines overlaid on the same graph, perhaps with different line colors? If you could elaborate a bit that might help me understand your vision.

As for tracking medications I will probably not be adding that feature, there are other programs available better suited to handle that. I don't want BP Tracker to be mediocre at a whole bunch of things, I rather it be very good at a few.

    Hi Sean,

First thank you for this application : simple and useful because it does all you need.

    2. Monitoring of weight is important as it's a major cause of hypertension. But user don't need it linked to blood pressure. Mainly because one check BP daily and weight weekly. If you implement weight please do not forget european or international units: kg!

    3. It only makes sense to plot all systolic or diastolic value for once a day measure. But some people need to check BP twice or three times a day. Graph should only display am, mid-day or pm values. Maybe each measure should ba associated with a "am", "mid-day", "pm" tag. And user should be able to filter data for graph plotting with those tags. What about that?

    4. Last detail, descriptive statistical data are useful but they lack of a dispersion indicator. Maybe under each average value a line in smaller letters with "plus/minus SD" could help.

    Have a nice day

I've tried to make some possible screen displays and one think jump at my mind: if you implement weight: people will immediately ask for BMI. So size is needed too. And Gender.

Next think: displaying the stat decimals are not needed with the mean. Removing the dot and the decimal gives enough room for prompting SD.

I've posted possible displays on Flicks with comments.

I concur on filtering for AM and PM. If you add weight and other stuff I'd make it another app: Health Tracker or whatever. Charge more. There seem to be other apps going in that direction.

I like the single purpose, very few touches, clean interface. That's me.

Thanks for the good work. Hope it is paying off for you.

  25. Thank you for the feedback peteraz!

I will add the am/pm thing to my list of possible features. I too like simple to the point apps, a scalpel vs a swiss army knife.

Would it be possible to add cholesterol tracking?

    Posted 1 year ago #
  27. Jalford,

I would be possible but how practical would it be? People probably check their blood pressure and pulse much more often than their cholesterol. For now you could just put the cholesterol numbers in the note field, unfortunately you will not get any graphing or stats.

If my assumption is way off base please explain further.

    Sean,

I donate blood (actually platelettes) every three or four weeks. As part of this process they provide cholesterol information. I currently use an application for my Palm TX that takes the cholesterol as a note but is capable of graphing and showing this information in a column in a table. I am transitioning away from the Palm and this is one of the last items to find for use on my iPod Touch.

  29. Jalford,

Thank you for the explanation. I will have to think on this further, the problem is I don't want to over complicate the program trying to do everything.

I was wondering if it would be possible to put a date range filter on the graphs like you have on the stats. I back entered a bunch of reading to March 2008 so the graph has too much data to see desired detail. Also, it would be nice to see last 3 and last 6 months rather than jumping from last month to last year... for both stats and graphs of course. Great job on this app!
